After I have imported 100+ episodes from ワールドトリガー, my first exercise is to lookup the grammar sequence I dread the most. Basing it off my first education of this which is Tae Kim’s page here.

First here are the statistics I found based on the possible sequences which ignore shortcuts.

だめ

Whether it was は・と・ば. だめ was never used maybe meaning it’s not used much anymore. Or maybe だめ is too strong.

いけない/いけません

は had only one occurrence and it was the positive て form of 戦う. This means essentially “mustn’t battle”.

“相手に見つかったまま 戦ってはいけない”です

と had more occurrences and all had negative verb prefixes meaning they were all “must …”. As per the と condition logic. These are supposed to be natural consequences of actions but they seem generic to me.

I’ve kept the above although crossed it out. After further working on this I realize how complex this is. Although I knew I would have to incorporate short forms at some point I didn’t realize until later that だめ was used but was always ダメ.

I realize that this grammar component is bad to start with although probably the one I’m most interested in. Will change to a different topic to test the subtitle lookup experiment and come back to this one.
